2021 Hunterdon County 4H Fair

August 23rd to August 29th

Gates Open at 10 am from Wednesday Aug. 23 to Sunday Aug 29th, 2021.
Hours of operation of the fair are 10am to 10pm every day but the last day. On the last day the fair closed 5pm.

The Hunterdon County Fairground was known as the South County Park and may be referred to as such on certain maps.  It is now known as the Rogert Everitt Fairgrounds.  It is located on County Route 179 East of the 179, Route 202 intersection.  The closest cross street is Gulick Road.

NWNJBA Participants, It is recommended that you enter in the second entrance (coming from Route 202) and park behind the Ag Exhibits building. 

The NWNJBA booth is in the Ag Exhibits tent.  See this map for a layout of the fairgrounds and for directions provided by the fair committee.

Fair Parking and Entry

Parking

Pull in the second entrance and park behind the tent if you can.  if not the fields aroudn the draft horse plowing demo area or any of the fields along the adjacent road work (see map to right)

The NWNJBA booth is in theAG Exhibits Tent on the west side of the fairgrounds.

FAIR PASSESS

The fair chairman will make all attempts to provide entry passes to volunteers in advance of the fair.  Please volutneer early so time can be allotted to make arrangements.

Participating in the honey show. Some instructions for participants:

  • Show entries can be delivered directly to the fairgrounds and must be received by 10:00 AM Thursday.  
  • Judging takes place on Thursday of the fair. 
  • Please be sure that your entries are packaged well for transport
  • If you cannot make it directly to the fair to drop off your entries there are options to drop them off with members ahead of time.  These members will take your entries to the fair on your behalf.  The following members will assist: Jim McCaulley, Jim and Eda Schmalz Charles Ilsley, Bob Kloss, and Stan and Fran Wasitowski.
  • Please make sure that arrangements are made to promplty pick up your entries at the end of the fair.
  • As you pick up your entries be sure to pick up your score cards.
  • Questions about participation or the fair in general can be directed to Fair committee chair Jim McCaulley.  

2021 Hunterdon County 4H Fair Honey Show Rules and Regulations

1. Please see our website, nwba.njbeekeepers.org for further information. 

2. Entries may not be removed from Fairground’s display before last day of fair. 

3. Honey must be produced by a member in good standing of the NJ Beekeepers Association (NJBA) with dues paid.

4. All entries must be the product of the entrant’s own bees and must have been produced since the previous year’s honey show.

5. There may be only one entry per class from any one membership.

6. Mead products must contain honey produced by entrant.

7. No labels on any entry. This rule applies to all classes.

8. Multiple entries for 4-H Bee Clubs will be allowed, but require one supervising, paid NJBA member to sponsor the entry. There is to be one entry per class per individual.

 

Classes

1. (3) one pound extracted – light

2. (3) one pound extracted – light amber

3. (3) one pound extracted – amber

4. (3) one pound extracted – dark

Entries must be in glass Gamber Classic or Queenline honey jars with plain metal or plastic lids.


5. Section Honey and Cut Comb - 3 basswood boxes in window or round sections with clear plastic lid or cut comb in clear plastic container

6. Creamed honey – 3 cylindrical or square, glass jars, 12 oz. to 16 oz. jars by honey weight

7. Chunk honey - 3 cylindrical or square, glass jars, 12 oz. to 16 oz. jars by honey weight.

8. One frame of honey in wooden or plastic bee-proof case

9. Mead – dry

10. Mead – sweet

11. Mead – made with fruit juices

12. Mead – sparkling, with or without fruit juice

Entries consist of (1) clear, non-frosted wine bottle with natural cork, plastic stopper, or screw top, 750 ml or 25.4 fl. oz. Sparkling mead should be in 1 champagne-type glass bottle which need not be clear


13. Beeswax block – Single block, one pound or slightly more, pure beeswax

14. Novelty beeswax – A single or coordinated set of any size, any shape pure beeswax item(s)

15. Beeswax Tapers - One pair taper candles, pure beeswax

16. Novelty Beeswax Candles - A single or coordinated set, any size, any shape, pure beeswax. May be decorated, fragranced, and/or painted

17. Hand Creams and Lotions - (3) Jars, glass or plastic, minimum weight 1.5 ounces each, containing beeswax and/or honey

18. Soap – (3) bars containing beeswax and/or honey, minimum weight 3 ounces each

19. Lip Balm – (3) tins, tubs, or tubes of lip balm, minimum weight 0.15 containing beeswax and/or honey

20. Photography

Prints should be 5” x 7” but no large than 8” X 12”, matted or mounted on a mounting board that extends at least one inch beyond the print on all sides. No frames are permitted.



9. Honey entries will be judged on the following basis:

1 st place - $12 and ribbon 

2 nd place - $10 and ribbon 

3rd place - $8 and ribbon

Best of Show


Best Exhibitor - Best Exhibitor will be awarded to the person receiving the highest accumulation of points.

Best of Show - Best of show will be awarded to the person, who in the opinion of the judge, has the single first place entry that represents the division and class entered better than any other first place entry.
